Every part of a map carries a tag saying what kind of thing it is. Data is a figure from a public federal table, with its vintage and a link. AI is text the model wrote, including how long it thinks each stage takes. That is the one estimate it's allowed. Computed is arithmetic over the two. You never have to guess which one you're looking at.

What can't be retrieved renders as missing rather than as a guess, so you always know which parts are grounded.

What does it cost?
Free while in beta, and no card. Each person gets a set number of maps to build during beta so we can watch how they're used; comparing careers side by side doesn't count against it. We'll say what the paid plan looks like well before anything changes.
Where do the numbers actually come from?
Wages and how many people hold a role: BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics. Projected openings: BLS Employment Projections. Completion rates: NCES and IPEDS. What a job involves: O*NET, from the Department of Labor. Employer reported wages: DOL H-1B disclosures. Education debt by stage: AAMC, ABA, NSF and NCES. All public, so any figure can be looked up. The one thing the model does estimate is how long each stage takes. That is labelled AI on the map, not Data.
What if there's no data for my goal?
The field renders as unavailable and says so. Astronauts, military officers and many specialised government roles have no occupation code of their own. That is exactly why the astronaut map above carries no wage for its goal instead of a number we made up. Where a close published occupation exists, the map can show it, clearly labelled as a substitute. Where a path contains a step the data can't price, the earnings view says "no realistic salary path" and names the step, rather than showing a zero.
How current is the data?
Federal data lags. Wage tables are published annually and reflect their survey period, not this morning, so rapidly changing fields may have moved. Figures are national and span industries unless the map says otherwise. The same job pays very differently by region and employer. And very small occupations are sometimes withheld by BLS because the sample is too thin to publish safely, so a gap can be the data protecting itself rather than an error. A path is a route people have taken, not a prediction.
What do I need to give it?
A goal, and where you are now. That can be a sentence such as "I'm in 8th grade," or a pasted transcript or an uploaded résumé, from which the map works out its own starting point. Uploads are read to find that point and aren't kept.
Is this only for students?
No. It works from middle school through a career change later in life. The map starts from wherever you tell it you are.
How old do you have to be?
If you're under 13 we'll ask for a parent or guardian's email instead of yours, and we write to them rather than to you.
What happens to my email?
One email, when your cohort opens. It isn't sold, shared, or used for ads.
